Repairing A-pens

Project: Repairs of A-pen Roofs
Projected Cost: $5,000
Status: will continue this winter

The Wildlife Center’s A Pens are outdoor large flight pens – up to 100 feet in length.  These pens are used to house large birds – Bald and Golden Eagles, Black and Turkey Vultures, Red-tailed Hawks, and Great Horned Owls – as they rehabilitate and build up flight muscles for return to the wild.  The two oldest flight pens – A1 and A2 – are generally in good condition, but rain and falling debris from the forest canopy contribute to roof deterioration.  Some board replacements and hardware upgrades, and some additional braces on the sidewalls,  are needed to make these flight pens safe and secure.
