Wildlife Center Admits 66 Patients in February 2011

The Wildlife Center admitted 66 patients in February 2011.  Of those patients, 12 were young squirrels--the start of the 2011 "baby season".   Our vet staff examined them and found them all to be healthy -- but still in need of care!  All were transferred to permitted at-home rehabilitators who specialize in rehabilitating young squirrels.  Our most interesting and unusual patient of the month was a Western Grebe admitted from Lake Anna, Louisa County.  After swallowing a fish hook, this bird was transported to the Wildlife Center for surgery.   The grebe was released five days later back at Lake Anna.                     Day in and day out, the Wildlife Center relies on the support of individuals for its live-saving work.   Please help!
