2020 Caring for Bunnies and Turtles!

Celebrate Spring with the Wildlife Center of Virginia's special Caring for Bunnies and Caring for Turtles program!

Each year, the Wildlife Center admits thousands of young animals – the “baby season” at the Wildlife Center typically runs from February through October. These young animals keep the veterinary team busy – particularly the staff rehabilitators and students, as they feed these hungry patients many times a day!  Eastern Cottontails are one of the most numerous mammal species admitted to the Center [460 in 2019], typically arriving in waves mid-March through September.

Turtles are another common springtime patient -- as these ancient reptiles emerge from their winter hibernation after the first warm spring rain, they can often be found crossing the roads. The Wildlife Center receives many species of turtles, including Woodland Box Turtles, Snapping Turtles, Eastern Painted Turtles, and more. Many of these turtles are hit by vehicles and have shell fractures and other wounds that require prolonged hospitalization prior to their release.

What better way to say "Happy Mother's Day" or "Happy Spring" than with a special Caring for Critters sponsorship of these Wildlife Center patients?

As a special Spring Caring for Critters sponsor, you [or your gift recipient] will receive a sponsorship packet, including:

  • Detailed information about your chosen species [bunnies or turtles], including the care they receive at the Wildlife Center, natural history information, and some tips on how you can help wildlife;
  • A photo of a bunny or turtle patient;
  • A personalized certificate of sponsorship; and
  • Periodic email updates about some of our 2020 patients.

This standard sponsorship package is available for $30.

We are also offering a Deluxe Spring Caring for Critters package that also includes:

  • Four chocolate-covered cookies from Mary’s Cakery and Candy Kitchen, an acclaimed chocolatier from King George, Virginia.
