2019 Caring for Bunnies and Opossums!

Celebrate Spring with the Wildlife Center of Virginia's special Caring for Bunnies and Caring for Opossums program!

Each year, the Wildlife Center admits thousands of young animals – the “baby season” at the Wildlife Center typically runs from February through October. These young animals keep the veterinary team busy – particularly the staff rehabilitators and students, as they feed these hungry patients many times a day!  Eastern Cottontails are typically the most numerous mammal species admitted to the Center [376 in 2018], but Virginia Opossums claimed the honorary "most numerous" patient category in 2018 when we admitted 414!

What better way to say "Happy Mother's Day" or "Happy Spring" than with a special Caring for Critters sponsorship of these Wildlife Center patients?

As a special Spring Caring for Critters sponsor, you [or your gift recipient] will receive a special sponsorship packet, including:

  • Detailed information about your chosen species [bunnies or opossums], including the care they receive at the Wildlife Center, natural history information, and some tips on how you can help wildlife;
  • A photo of a bunny or baby opossum patient;
  • A personalized certificate of sponsorship; and
  • Periodic email updates about some of our 2019 patients.

This standard sponsorship package is available for $30.

We are also offering a Deluxe Spring Caring for Critters package that also includes:

  • Four chocolate-covered cookies from Mary’s Cakery and Candy Kitchen, an acclaimed chocolatier from King George, Virginia.
  • For opossum sponsors, an adorable opossum tote bag! The artwork for this bag was created by office administrator Kayla Cline. The bag is made of 100% cotton sheeting and measures 15.75"h x 15.25"w. This is an opossum-package exclusive and is not for sale as a single item - available only as part of the Deluxe Caring for Opossums package!

  • For bunny sponsors, an adorable rabbit finger puppet from Folkmanis [about 5"].

The Deluxe sponsorship package is $40. Shipping costs are included with both packages.

Place your order for this special Spring Caring for Critters package today in our online shop! Orders will be fulfilled during the week of April 1.

No phone calls, please! As we enter our busy spring season, we want to ensure the lines are open for people with wildlife emergencies and questions.

A variety of other Wildlife Center education animals are also available for “adoption” through the Caring for Critters sponsorship program.
