Virtual Learning: Summer Match Extravaganza!

August 12, 2020 (All day)
Online!

During the past seven summers, a generous donor has challenged Critter Nation with a matching fundraising challenge for a variety of Center projects and patients. This year, the donor has done it again – she will donate $2500 in matching funds for our summer challenge!

This year’s theme is continued learning during a global pandemic – educating people of all ages during a time when in-person learning is difficult. We’ll be raising funds to go toward a variety of education, outreach, and training tools that will help us continue to "teach the world to care about and to care for wildlife and the environment". Funds will go toward a few key areas:

  • Support for our new "All About Wildlife" series through the Wildlife Care Academy! These on-demand courses are designed for use in the classroom, specifically for grades 3-7. The Center outreach and training teams are working to create a variety of these courses this fall, with the first one, All About Owls, ready for launch! The course enables teachers and students to learn about the physical and behavioral adaptations of owls, habitat requirements, and ecological threats to owls -- all in an on-demand course, so classes may go at their own pace. There are a variety of learning elements within the course, including videos, PowerPoint lectures, printable worksheets, activities, and additional resources to give teachers and students a well-rounded educational experience. All of the Center's programs promote positive attitudes toward wildlife and emphasize how the personal choices we make affect the health of the environment. Students learn and understand actions they can take to become better wildlife stewards.

  • Equipment for at-home work for online teaching and learning. The Center will purchase some updated webcams, microphones, lighting fixtures, and more for those working on Wildlife Care Academy projects, Call of the Wild lectures and presentations, and other outreach projects.
