According to a study by Kim Echols, in Virginia, Black Bear sows have been documented giving birth from December 19 to February 22 – with a median date of January 17. It's become a Wildlife Center tradition to celebrate the bears' birthdays on this day!

Join us as we kick off birthday week with a special Black Bear birthday party! Tune in to our live events page at 2:00 p.m. Eastern as the rehabilitation staff prepare some special birthday treats for our five bears as they turn into yearlings. Following the party prep, the rehabilitation staff will deliver the goodies to the Black Bear Complex for the bears.
Monday, January 17 is also the #BettyWhiteChallenge, honoring the late actress and animal lover. Consider making a donation to the Wildlife Center to commemorate this special day. Bear fans can also support all of the bear patients that the Center will care for this year through the Caring for Critters program.
