Sally P. Jordan was a lifelong Virginia resident. Sally spent her entire 40-year distinguished career at the microbiology lab at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond.
Sally was also a loyal supporter of the Wildlife Center of Virginia and a devoted fan of Critter Cam. Sally spent hours watching the eagles, the bears, and other recovering Center patients.
And, as “SalGal”, she was a frequent Critter Cam sponsor. She did hundreds of Critter Cam sponsorships … and through those sponsorships, we learned a bit more about Sal Gal.
We learned about her favorite foods – including crab cakes, buttermilk biscuits, and grilled cheese sandwiches. We learned that her favorite TV show was I Love Lucy … that her favorite car was a 1969 Chevelle that she had for 31 years [it was royal blue, with a blue interior.]
Many of SalGal’s sponsorships were for food holidays – Blueberry Pancake Day, or Chinese Takeout Day, or National Hot Dog Day/National Lollipop Day [both celebrated on July 20]. She also helped us commemorate National Paperclip Day [invented in 1867 by Samuel B. Fay] and Ancestor Appreciation Day [“Where would we be without them???”]
Through these Cam sponsorships, we also learned about SalGal’s sense of humor – and her irreverence.
It’s National Mutt Day & National Tree Day! A great pairing, huh? Here’s to some happy pups.
It’s National Read a Book Day & Fight Procrastination Day. Been waiting to read a book? Start today!!
On Nat’l Frozen Yogurt Day & Nat’l Chopstick Day! Good luck trying to eat yogurt w/ chopsticks!
It’s National Plum Pudding Day & Abe Lincoln’s birthday! I wonder if he liked plum pudding?
And we also were reminded, over and over, of SalGal’s generosity and kindness. Her final Cam sponsorship was for World Kindness Week. “Shouldn’t that be EVERY week???”
Sally passed away on January 2, 2023. In her memory, her family members have created a special fund to continue Sally’s Critter Cam sponsorship. And they encourage others to help support the Center’s outreach work through Critter Cam sponsorships.
