Bald Eagle #18-0223 update

Bald Eagle #18-0223 has not been flying well during the past few weeks; the bird tires easily and consistently has a left-wing droop. On July 5, Dr. Ernesto evaluated the eagle again and found fresh wounds on the eagle’s left carpus. Dr. Ernesto assessed all of the eagle’s radiographs and determined that the eagle’s fractured left coracoid and clavicle had healed in a slightly abnormal position, preventing the eagle from having a normal extension during flight. It’s likely that because of the way the fracture healed, the eagle was not able to properly use that wing, which made maneuvering difficult and caused additional issues. The eagle was humanely euthanized.
