My favorite story from 2013 at the Wildlife Center of Virginia is the construction of enclosures for the rehabilitation of Black Bears.
In early August, I was reviewing the Wildlife Center’s July financial statements. I was anxious to see where we were on expenses – particularly “animal feed”, our line item for food that we buy for patients and resident education animals.
I spent five weeks at the Wildlife Center of Virginia as a vet extern last spring. I’m from Brazil, and it was my first time in the USA, first time in another country, and my first time seeing snow
There are many things I love about working at the Wildlife Center – every day is a little different (and usually exciting) and we have a wonderful team that does amazing things to help wildlife, directly and indirectly.
As I think back over all of the events of 2013, I have a hard time pinpointing a single memorable event. What I think stands out to me this year is the growth of our technology – and the pure fun of sharing it.
When I look back on 2013, I think the new bear enclosure has been our most significant accomplishment.
I was lucky enough to spend a month at the Wildlife Center of Virginia during my senior year of vet school. I remember arriving there with the hopes of seeing a wild Black Bear.
The end of 2013 marks the half-way point of my wildlife rehabilitation internship at the Wildlife Center of Virginia. I’ve witnessed and been a part of many amazing things this year at WCV, and it’s hard to name just one memorable moment ... so I won’t; I’ll pick two.
The story that grabbed my heart this year is of a critter that never entered our doors.
