I have so many great memories from 2019, but the one that stands out the most for me was getting to work with our female bobcat kitten #19-2408.

It’s time to look back on 2019! Check our blog between Christmas and New Year’s for a variety of stories and memories of 2019 from the staff and volunteers of the Wildlife Center of Virginia.
Caroline asked me my favorite question: “are you available to help with a snake?”
The outreach team spent just about every minute of three glorious days with Melissa – showing her our enclosures, introducing her to the raptor ambassadors, talking through challenges, and having her observe us in action during training sessions.
One of my favorite work perks is being called upon to release healed animals back into the wild.
For most raptor releases, we open the crate door holding the raptor, and it’s never more than a minute or two before the bird flies out, happy to be free. Not this owl!
Being able to learn from more experienced people on a daily basis is very exciting for me since I love to learn new things, especially about wildlife and conservation.
This experience helped improve my confidence for the intake of challenging birds.
“I’m going to be on TV!” was the text I sent to my family this past May.
The cuteness of this critter was almost unbearable, but the task of caring for something so small was a bit daunting!
