2022 Year in Review: Angela Conrad, Director of Administration

It’s time to look back on 2022! Check our blog between now and New Year’s for a variety of stories and memories of 2022 from the staff and volunteers of the Wildlife Center of Virginia.

It was around 8:00 pm on May 19th and I’m certain I was in my pajamas watching television by this point in the evening. My phone buzzed and I saw a text message from a friend who began to feverishly text me about a tiny opossum they found all by himself. Still being fairly new to the Center, I immediately messaged Kelsey (the rehabilitation supervisor) to get some guidance and make sure I was relaying correct information and instructions as to how to handle this situation. This baby opossum was too small to be on its own and did indeed need to come into the Center.

Early the next morning, I picked up the opossum from my friend, and off to the Center we went! I took him into the building and looked at Amber, the Center’s office manager. Now what? Amber told me I should be the one to admit him – and she talked me through the process of admitting my first patient.

Working in the Administration department, I don’t have patient interactions every day like staff in other departments, so this was truly an impressionable moment! Even though my role with this opossum was quite small, I was over the moon and forever will be grateful for the little part I was able to play.
