It’s time to look back on 2020! Check our blog between Christmas and New Year’s for a variety of stories and memories of 2020 from the staff and volunteers of the Wildlife Center of Virginia.
2020 was a challenging year for many, but it ended up being particularly straining for me. I had several major losses in my life, and a few major scares … but throughout it all, the Wildlife Center continued to support me.
I’m 31 years old, and I’ve had several jobs throughout my life, but none has resulted in me being surrounded by such caring and compassionate people. I continue to be touched every day by the presence of mind of those who surround me (now virtually).
The strength that everyone at the Wildlife Center shows in the face of adversity – and the support that they’ve shown each other – really shows. When I had a loss in my life, the people who helped the most were those I work alongside. When we lost ambassadors that we all cared deeply for, everyone felt that loss together and lifted each other up, and shared stories and tangible created items to remember them by.
The Gala this year was very different (like everything else) and took up a massive chunk of my time and mental fortitude. Despite that, executing that week-long event with people who genuinely bring me joy made it fly by. I especially loved mixing drinks with Amanda and Lauren! I really do feel fortunate to be here every day and look forward to what the next year brings for us all.
