2017 Year in Review: Jaclyn Neri, Licensed Veterinary Technician

It’s time to look back on 2017! Check our blog between Christmas and New Year’s for a variety of stories and memories of 2017 from the staff and volunteers of the Wildlife Center of Virginia.

Even though I only started working here in October, I have had so many wonderful memories at WCV. It is hard to pick just one memory that sticks out. Looking back on my first week here I was beyond excited but also very nervous. My nerves quickly disappeared that first week when I was shot by a water gun by no one other than Dr. Ernesto -- my boss! I knew then that not only would I fit in here, but it was also going to be fun to work here.

Not even a month into being here, I sprained my ankle. My new coworkers, who I hardly knew, were there beside me to help in any way. Even the amazing volunteers were looking out for me and, even today, still make sure I don’t injure myself again! When it came around to the holidays I wasn’t able to go home and see my family. But little did I know that the students and staff were quickly becoming my new family. They have made each holiday special and so memorable, from playing games and having a very relaxed Thanksgiving at Amanda’s to the best Secret Santa gift exchange I have been a part of.

I knew this place would be great but it has been the volunteers, students, and staff that have made working here so enjoyable. I have never been greeted with warmer hearts than here at the Center. I am thrilled to work at such an amazing place that strives to change the world, and have that place be filled with some pretty great people as well. I can’t wait to see what memories will be made in the future with my WCV family.
