As I enjoy my last few days of anonymity, I am reflecting on just what led EN/CN to donate thousands of their hard earned dollars to the Wildlife Center of Virginia in the GN Reveal/Monkey Business campaign.
My conclusion is that it had very little to do with either GN or the imaginary monkey. It had everything to do with the generosity of an online "family" and the trust they place in the Center and the vision Ed Clark had 30 years ago.
Yes, I suppose that GN made some intermittently interesting comments over the past few months, but the fact is that folks would not have sent money to ANY organization they didn't believe in.
And that is where the Center is singularly deserving of this support. They educate us. They entertain us. We know the names of every team member working there, their birthdays and most of their shoe sizes. We know, and adopt, the education animals. We rejoice when a wild animal is healed and returned to the world in which they belong. And, we mourn the loss of the patients that don't survive.
The bottom line is that when you make a donation to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, you have every confidence that each and every dollar will be used in the most efficient, practical and, yes, satisfying way, to not only help the cause, but also make you feel good about yourself. And that is a rare feat indeed.
I am more than a little humbled by the results of this crazy campaign. But that doesn't stop me from reminding everyone that the original deadline for raising funds for the GN Reveal/Monkey Business circus was November 26th. So, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, let's keep the money pouring in and set the bar high for the next wacky project that comes along!
I'm sure that Dr. Dave has more essential items on his wish list.
