Bequests and Estate Planning
The Wildlife Center is grateful for those caring individuals who have included the Center in their estate plans. Their generosity has helped us meet current challenges and will be an ongoing source of financial support for years to come.
Many individuals have chosen to give a bequest to the Center — by including the Center in their wills.
There are a couple of additional planned-giving vehicles that might be of interest:
Charitable Remainder Trust [CRT]. A CRT is designed to provide ongoing life-income to the individual who sets up the trust, with the balance of the trust funds going to the Wildlife Center at the donor’s death. A CRT is often set up with assets [like stocks or property] that have appreciated significantly in value since they were purchased, thereby avoiding capital gains taxes.
There are two forms of the CRT — a Unitrust [the trust pays the donor a fixed percentage each year], and an Annuity Trust [the trust pays out a fixed amount each year].
Charitable Leader Trust [CLT]. With a CLT, the roles are reversed. A CLT provides income to the Wildlife Center, with the balance of the trust funds to go to children, grandchildren, or other beneficiaries at the donor’s death. Again, a CLT is often set up with appreciated assets.
And there are two forms of the CLT — a Unitrust [the trust pays the Wildlife Center a fixed percentage each year], and an Annuity Trust [the trust pays the Center a fixed amount each year].
For additional information about including the Wildlife Center in your estate plans, please contact Randy Huwa at 540.942.9453 or rhuwa@wildlifecenter.org. All inquiries will be treated in strict confidence. We also encourage individuals considering making or changing their estate plans to contact their attorney and tax advisor.
The Wildlife Center has established the Legacy Society for individuals who have informed us that they have included the Center in their wills or estate plans. If you would like to have your name included in the roster of Legacy Society members, please contact Randy Huwa at 540.942.9453 or rhuwa@wildlifecenter.org.
