Who Can Attend These Classes?
The Wildlife Center offers a variety of training classes at various levels for those interested in the field of wildlife rehabilitation:
- Introductory classes are geared to individuals who are interested in learning about helping wildlife as well as learning about the wildlife rehabilitation permitting process. These classes include Introduction to Wildlife Rehabilitation and Wildlife Capture, Restraint, Handling & Transportation.
- Beginner classes are designed for those who will be obtaining their license or have their apprentice license and less than two years of rehabilitation experience. These classes include Introduction to Raising Orphaned Mammals, Introduction to Raising Orphaned Birds, and White-tailed Deer Fawn Rehabilitation.
- Intermediate classes are designed for those who have their apprenticeship license and at least one year of rehabilitation experience. Intermediate to advanced classes vary and are taught by Wildlife Center veterinarians.
How Will They Benefit You?
All classes and workshops offered by The Wildlife Center help to meet the educational requirements of The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries for obtaining wildlife rehabilitation permits.

All classes and workshops are taught by The Wildlife Center’s rehabilitation or veterinary staff .
How Can I Register?
To register, please call 540-942-9453 or email your name, address, and classes of interest to outreach@wildlifecenter.org. Once received, the outreach coordinator will email a confirmation letter with directions as well as payment instructions. In order to guarantee your place in a class, pre-payment is required. Walk-ins are welcome, but are not guaranteed class manuals or certificates of attendance.
Refunds are given if requests are received five days or more prior to classes. No refunds will be given for cancellations made after the deadline or for no shows.
