New Eagle Flight Enclosure

The Wildlife Center of Virginia is currently working to build a third flight enclosure – an outdoor facility [96 feet by 16 feet] to be used for flight rehabilitation of Bald Eagles and other raptors.

The sides of this new pen would be constructed of tear-proof nylon mesh, greatly reducing the risk of injury to eagles. Other features include an “eaglet house” – an enclosure attached to the flight pen for use in caring for young birds – and a video camera to remotely observe the bird’s behavior.

The costs of this new pen are estimated at $20,000. The Center has already secured about half of the necessary funding and is seeking the additional contributions of money and materials needed to complete the project.
