Volunteer Opportunities
Interested in volunteering at the Wildlife Center of Virginia?
The Wildlife Center cannot fulfill its mission without the help of many dedicated volunteers. Volunteers play a vital role in assisting the patients as well as sharing the Center’s message. Volunteers serve in many different ways depending on their interests, availability, and the needs of the Center.
The staff of the Center enjoys working with volunteers of different ages and personalities and looks forward to the time, energy and ideas that volunteers bring with them to help further the mission of the WCV.
The following are the areas in which the Wildlife Center needs volunteer help:
Animal Care
Carpentry
Environmental Education Docents
Gardening
Host Family
Sewing/Knitting/Crafts
Transport and Rescue
Treatment Team
Vets and Vet Technicians (Professionals)
There are opportunities for everyone; both on-site and off-site positions are available. Volunteers may donate their time in more than one area if they so choose. Please note that on-site volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
To apply:
- Please read our Volunteer Handbook. This handbook contains descriptions about the different volunteer areas and will help you decide which area will be the best fit for you. It also contains important information on the roles and responsibilities of Wildlife Center volunteers.
- After reading the volunteer handbook, please fill out our online application. If you would prefer than an application be emailed to you, please contact wildlife@wildlifecenter.org.
- All on-site applicants must attend a general Wildlife Center volunteer orientation before beginning their volunteer work at the Center. Once your application has been submitted, a staff member will email you within two weeks to notify you of the next orientation date. Orientations are held monthly.
- After attending a general orientation, a team leader for the area(s) in which you are interested will be in touch with you to schedule your start date. Some areas have limitations on available start times; the volunteer handbook contains more details about these restrictions.
