Wildlife Center Admits 323 Patients in July 2011
A total of 323 patients were admitted in July 2011 — a slightly slower month than the historically busy months of May and June. Many young patients that were admitted in the earlier spring months were released — including many young birds, spring opossums and rabbits, and of course, five Bald Eagles! The Center is currently treating about 130 animals.
Topping the admission chart for the month of July: 50 Eastern cottontail rabbits. Opossums were close behind with 48 admitted for care — most of these were orphaned after their mothers were hit by cars.
Some of the more unusual cases included:
The staff anticipate that monthly admissions will continue to slow as we head into fall — though the second litter of young squirrels born in August will continue to keep the staff busy!
Day in and day out, the Wildlife Center relies on the support of individuals for its life-saving work. Please help!
