Bald Eagle Release August 30, 2011
The Wildlife Center of Virginia will release two Bald Eagles on Tuesday, August 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Berkeley Plantation, on the James River in Charles City County.
The eagles to be released include “NX”, one of the three eagles rescued in April from their nest at the Norfolk Botanical Garden, and “KS”, an eagle from Virginia Beach.
The eagle-release event is free and open to the public. Individuals interested in attending are asked to RSVP through the Wildlife Center’s website.
Directions
Please visit the Berkeley Plantation website for directions. Alternatively, use Google/MapQuest to obtain the best directions from your location to the Berkeley address:
12602 Harrison Landing Road
Charles City, Virginia 23030
For the eagle release, there will be a directional sign near the front of Berkeley Plantation’s driveway. Rather than taking a slight right onto Harrison Landing (which leads to the main Berkeley Plantation mansion), bear left toward Westover Plantation. Take an immediate right (look for the “eagle release” sign) onto a gravel driveway [if you pass the sign that notes that Westover Plantation is two miles ahead, you have missed the turn to Berkeley].
Follow the gravel road straight back for 1.1 miles. You will pass small silos on your left. Once you pass a sunflower field on your right, look for the parking area.
PLEASE NOTE: As of Monday, August 29 Berkeley Plantation is without electricity or water. This will not affect the eagle release … but it will affect the human “amenities”. There will be no restrooms or port-a-potties at Berkeley on Release Day, so please plan accordingly.
