Naylors Beach Bald Eagle

Bald Ealge 11-0152On March 16, a mature Bald Eagle was admitted to the Wildlife Center.  The bird was found on Naylors Beach in Richmond County, Virginia, and was picked up by officials from the U.S. Fish &  Wildlife Service.  A  volunteer transporter brought the bird to the Wildlife Center.

The eagle had sustained extensive trauma to its right wing; its elbow was completely destroyed.  The eagle was immediately euthanized.  Dr. Kelly Flaminio took radiographs post-mortem for further information and found metal fragments consistent with a lead rifle bullet.  The Bald Eagle also had lead fragments in its stomach, likely from picking at the wound.  

U.S. Fish & Wildlife officials are investigating the case to find the person who shot the Bald Eagle.
