Wildlife Rehabilitation Classes

Get involved in helping Virginia's wildlife!

Wildlife Capture, Restraint, Handling and Transportation

This is an essential class for those interested in wildlife rehabilitation, as well as those who simply want to assist rehabilitators by capturing and transporting animals. Learn effective capture and restraint techniques used at the Wildlife Center of Virginia. View slides introducing some of the most commonly seen species in wildlife rehabilitation. Demonstrations using stuffed animals and commercial safety equipment will be shown. Discussions will include the importance of learning and developing skills to properly ensure the safety of both you and the animal.

Wildlife Zoonoses

Zoonoses are animal diseases which are transmissible to humans. Those who work closely with animals may be at an increased risk for disease transmission. This class focuses on the major wildlife zoonoses in mammals, birds, and reptiles which may be of threat to wildlife rehabilitators and veterinarians. Learn which diseases are carried by commonly seen wildlife and how to properly protect yourself as well as other patients in your care. Appropriate disinfection is also discussed.
