Environmental Education Assemblies

Programs

Invite the Wildlife Center of Virginia to come to your school or organization to present environmental education programs. These programs include up-close experiences with live, non-releasable wild animals, and information about our hospital. We also address crucial environmental issues, such as how the personal choices we make can affect the health of the world. Programs incorporate stories, songs, games, puppets, and other interactive experiences. The following themes are being offered:

Critters Don't Need Litter (Litter Awareness)
Everyone needs a healthy habitat in which to survive. Meet animals who have had a close encounter with pollution or other habitat problems. Learn what we all can do to help these animals live in a healthy, litter-free world.

You Are What You Eat (Food Chains)
From producers to predators to scavengers, the amazing food chain provides energy for all living things. Find out how energy (and other things) moves from one organism to another. Learn more about how wild animals fit into food chains and webs and what they must eat to survive.

Wildlife Myths: The Truth Behind the Tails (Animal Misconceptions)
Blind as a bat and wise as an owl are sayings we often hear, but are they really true? Participants will discover some common "myth-conceptions" about wild creatures and learn more about animals' true behavior, interesting adaptations, and their relationships with other animals and humans.

Whoo's Awake in the Night (Nocturnal Creatures)
What do animals do when darkness falls? Creatures of the night use amazing adaptations to exist in their world. Learn the unique characteristics of these animals and how they survive when the sun goes down.

A View from the Top (Birds of Prey)
What makes birds of prey such successful hunters? The audience will learn about the fantastic tools these magnificent predators have and discover what they can teach us about the world they inhabit.

Ancient Voices: Native American Animal Legends
Why are some animals venomous? Why do some have naked tails? Experience some of the stories and myths Native Americans use to better understand their world and to teach others about living in harmony with nature.

Scales and Tails (Reptiles)
Take a look into the eyes of a scaly critter and learn what makes these animals so special.  The audience will become aware of the critical conservation issues surrounding reptiles and ways to help protect them.
